Jerusalem Field Office _ Prophecy Desk
For the Manofim Contemporary Arts Festival,
The D.N.A. opened a field office at the historic Templer House,
as part of the exhibit Navee Navee or Prophet Prophet.
The show explores the concept of prophecy as such:
In ancient times, the prophets were the ones who protested moral
corruption and warned against catastrophes. They were prepared to pay
a heavy personal price and forgo being popular when their prophecies
were dire. In many respects, artists (like prophets) observe society
from the sidelines and refuse to conform to social norms. From the margins,
it is 'permissible' to utter a dissenting opinion or criticism that may be
painful to hear.
For this exhibit, the D.N.A. created a special animal reporting form
that enquires about the prophetic qualities of people's animal encounters,
thus opening up an awareness of animals as agents of memory and resistance.
